WELCOME TO MY ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO

My name is Rosa and like you, I am a unique individual! I am a life-long learner. I enjoy being with children so I interact with them in many activities for work and play.

In personality, I am somewhat reserved but I think that the more I look back in time, review who I was, reflect on the way I have walked to arrive here and who I have become…I am more confident, I worry less and let others get to know me well. I love to be busy and get the most out of every day!

Spanish is my native language and I am still learning English. I always wanted to be a teacher. Even on days when I feel tired, I enter a magical world as soon as I
step "on stage" in a classroom. I love making my students smile and I love to see the sparkle in my students’eyes as they learn. Even on a really bad day, those student smiles make me feel great!

.·° My Path to Today °·.

I started teaching in El Salvador when I was 18 years old. Where I come from, many of us join the work force at that age. I decided to join the teaching profession, after attending a rally in my country against our Salvadoran 12 year civil war. I learned that I needed to become an agent of change and I realized at that moment that education was the key to many of our problems.

Back in those days, English was becoming the language of globalization. I was starting my journey towards my Master's degree in Education, I began looking for opportunities to immerse myself in an English speaking environment.

One day while reading the newspaper, I found an invitation from the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador to participate in the candidate selection for the Fulbright Scholarships. I presented some documents and my application and later began the selection process which took about a year. I was interviewed by
the US AID, Institute of International Education representatives. I had to comply with the required test scores on the GRE and the TOEFL standard tests, and meet the criteria of the interviewers. I came to the U.S. to study ESL Instruction in 1994 and was honored to be named a Fulbright Scholar for two and a half years!

After completing my program, I went back to El Salvador, Universidad ecnologica offered me a full time teaching position. I taught there for 9 years.

“Life” brought me back to the United States in 2001 and, at this moment, I am studying my second Master's Degree in the field of Curriculum and Instruction, which is an area of concentrated studies in Bilingual - Special Education at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
